In case anyone from outside the U.S. reads this, the event Ashley is trying to change is the assassination of Abraham Lincoln at the end of the U.S. Civil War in 1865. Perhaps if she had just left history alone instead...
As for the line in panel 2, nobody actually knows what the word "sockdologizing" means, and its only use was in "Our American Cousin", the play Lincoln was watching when he was killed.
